Making the Web Smarter

Fred Wilson writes about the new Common Tag consortium. The idea is to develop a common taxonomy across collaborative tagging applications.

I'm not quite sure what I think of that idea yet. The creation of a shared taxonomy across multiple index sites is great in theory, but bedeviled with complications in practice. I don't think we've quite hit on the right user experience yet, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
